Hebron
Oct. 3  the NECONN boys’ U12 soccer team traveled to Hebron and pulled away with a 6-2 victory.  Goaltending played a major role in the win as NECONN’s David Redfield gave up only one goal in each of the halves and simply outperformed his counterpart in the Hebron net.  Along with David’s fine effort, fullbacks Jack Liggett and Alec Nystrom and marking back Elijah Dufour played superbly and kept the Hebron attackers at bay all afternoon.
On the offense, with five minutes gone on the clock, NECONN struck first when Adam Trudeau threaded the needle through the Hebron defense to Max Paro on a run to the far post.  Max timed his slide perfectly and knocked the ball past the befuddled Hebron keeper.  Hebron would come back three minutes later with a nice score of its own, but the rest of the half was all NECONN.  At the 17-minute mark, Chris Walker was attacking down the left wing and dished a perfect through ball to Ryan Black.  Ryan’s great speed brought him in along, where he slid the ball into the corner to give the lead back to NECONN.  Just four minutes later, Connor Fillmore drew a crowd up the middle and found Black again working hard for position.  Connor’s ball connected with Ryan on a full sprint, and the result was NECONN’s third goal of the game.  To close out the half, Black got on the assist side of the score column as he delivered a perfect corner kick to the onrushing William Liscomb.  Will got air on his leap and one-timed the ball into the back of the net.
In the second half, the 4-1 NECONN lead held up until the 13-minute mark when Hebron finally broke through the NECONN defense to record their second goal of the game.  Momentum was quickly snatched away from Hebron less than a minute later, though, when NECONN’s Sam Paul was taken down  just outside the penalty box on a sprint to the goal.  Sam lined the ball up for the direct kick and blasted a true shot just under the cross bar to gain back the three-goal cushion.  With time winding down, Ryan Black made a final bid at the Hebron goal.  He sent a near-post cross that Zach Gagnon almost tallied on.  Zach’s shot rebounded off the goalie, and Ryan, following his cross, somehow redirected the ball just inside the post to notch the final goal of the game.
NECONN’s win evens its season record at 3-3.  Their next game will be Oct. 17 at home in a rematch with WAM.
