Pomfret 1 Porter 0
Oct. 9: The girls’ varsity soccer team got a late second half goal from Morgan Lasewicz to secure a 1-0 win over Miss Porter. Despite controlling the tempo of the match, Pomfret struggled to score today and finally got on the scoreboard in the 78th minute off a great run up the flank from Jamie Samociuk.  Jamie beat a player on the endline and attacked the near post, drawing the sweeper and then slotting the ball to the six for Morgan who knocked the ball home for the game winner.  Credit goes to Miss Porters for doing a good job defending and making it difficult for Pomfret to finish chances in the final third. Stellar play from Andi Nicholson up top and Alida Bernhart in the back kept Pomfret in the game.  In the end, it was determination and perseverance that allowed Pomfret to get the win.  The team moves to 5-1-1.

The Marianapolis Varsity girls’ soccer team lost in the first round of the SENE Playoffs Oct. 11 when they traveled to Lincoln School. In the regular season match-up, the teams played in Thompson to a 3-3 tie.
Oct. 11 the game was just as evenly matched at Lincoln’s beautiful turf field, but a fluky goal with 16 minutes left gave the home team the victory. MPS played well throughout the game, but they could not find the back of the net despite numerous opportunities.
Lincoln’s goal put them ahead and moved them on to the semifinals of the SENE Playoffs. The Golden Knights finished their season with a record of 6-10-2.
