Pomfret 6 Hopkins 0
Oct. 30: The goals came early and often in a strong performance from the girls’ varsity soccer team on the road at Hopkins. Pomfret got on the board just 58 seconds into the match after Caroline Kozlowski put a ball thru to L’Or Iman Puymartin who got to the endline and served a driven ball across the box.  Andi Nicholson made a great dummy run to draw the keeper only to let the ball run thru to Jamie Samociuk who walked the ball in at the far post.  Andi got the second goal 15 minutes later off a well-played volley from Alison Horst over the top of the defensive line which Andi buried for her first of two on the day.  Just five minutes later, Pomfret got their third goal and possibly their best combination on the day off a direct kick from 40 yds out.  Jamie lofted a ball on the six which Caroline timed perfectly and volleyed it over the keeper to put Pomfret up 3-0.  The half ended with another goal from Andi off a thru ball by Jamie which Andi got on the end of and calmly tucked away for a decisive 4-0 lead.
Pomfret came out in the second half determined to keep a clean sheet and maintain their focus.  The backline defended extremely well, led by Alida Bernhart, Val DiLella, Dylan O’Hara & Carly Scott.  Alyson Chase and Liv Dalton-Hoffnan controlled the middle of the field, winning 50/50 tackles and distributing the ball very well.  Jamie Samociuk continued to show why she is one of the best central midfielders in the league, as she not only dominated possession but ended the afternoon with 1 goal and 3 assists. Morgan Lasewicz was a burst off the bench, finishing with two great second half goals, one off a service from Caroline and the other from Jamie to finish the scoring at 6. Alison Horst had one of her best games in the midfield today, and Dejda Collins almost finished one that ricocheted off the underside of the crossbar only to bounce back out of the goal.  Mackenzie Dunphy made two great saves in the second half to preserve the shutout. Pomfret got valuable minutes from Izzy Regine up top and Sorrel Perka in the midfield and the forward trio of Caroline, Andi & L’Or gave the Hopkins defenders more than they could handle. Overall, it was a tremendous team effort. Pomfret moves to 8-3-2.

Hyde 0 Falmouth 2
Oct. 30: It was a disappointing afternoon for the Hyde girls’ varsity soccer team, dropping another league game to SENE opponent Falmouth Academy.  With strong first half play, the WolfPack could not maintain momentum for the final forty minutes of play, resulting in another loss for the team.
Though play was slightly slow in the first half, Hyde was able to maintain great possession, moving the ball through the flank in the middle third of the field, with Mari Barnett ’11 leading the charge.  Using Marcy Altobello ’12 as support, the WolfPack was able to generate great offensive movement through midfield possession and crossing, though unable to capitalize on the attacks.  The first half defense, led by Bryn Nolan ’12 and Hope Eldridge ’11, also excelled, preventing all of Falmouth’s threats from penetrating the 18-yard box.
Unfortunately, the momentum did not continue into the second half of play.  The midfield slowed and offense was unable to generate any true impetus towards the goal.  The first ten minutes of play did show promise for the WolfPack.  However, Falmouth was able to catch Hyde off guard with a counter attack, playing the ball deep down the flank and finishing a cross that landed just inside the six yard line with 27:23 left on the clock.  Typically unrelenting, the WolfPack did not rally back from the deficit, allowing Falmouth to possess the ball for the majority of the remaining time.  Though Camryn Bindra ’13 and Eldridge continued a solid defensive effort, Falmouth was able to regenerate the play that earned its first goal to garner insurance on the scoreboard with 9:48 to play.  Barnett and Altobello continued to work hard through the midfield, as did Andrea Sayegh ’12 on offense, but it was clear that the WolfPack heart was missing on the field.
