POMFRET --- President of the Pomfret School Board of Trustees Peter Grauer, recently announced the appointment of J. Timothy Richards as Pomfret School’s 12th Head of School, effective July 1, 2011.
Richards currently holds the position of assistant head of school for Student Life at St. George’s School in Middletown, R.I., a college preparatory boarding and day school of 360 students. Brought up on the Phillips Academy, Andover (Mass.) campus and an ’81 graduate, Tim earned his bachelor's at Connecticut College, where he also won the Helen Lehman Buttenweiser Scholar Award for Outstanding Scholarship and Leadership. He received his master's in French at Middlebury College. Tim also taught, supervised a dorm and coached a variety of sports at both Groton School (Mass.) and Wilbraham & Monson Academy (Mass.) as well as the Phillips Academy, Andover Summer Session for several years before joining St. George’s in 1988. During his time at St. George’s Tim has been involved in all facets of the school; teaching French and psychology, coaching football and squash, supervising dorms, director of St. George’s Summer Session in France, assistant dean of Students, dean of students and now assistant head of school.”
In accepting his appointment, Richards said, “I am thrilled to be joining the Pomfret community and I am honored to be selected as the next leader of this outstanding school. I look forward to forging the partnerships with students, faculty, staff, parents, neighbors, board members and alumni to further promote the school’s mission and to move Pomfret to the next level.”
Richards will succeed current Pomfret School headmaster of 18 years Brad Hastings, who will be honored throughout the remainder of the school year for the numerous accomplishments the school has achieved under his leadership.
