PUTNAM --- The Putnam Business Association will conclude its second year of operation at its Annual Meeting and social at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 13 at The Courthouse Bar and Grille. The evening will include induction of the 2011 slate of officers and the presentation of the President’s Award, according to PBA President Ronald P. Coderre.
The Putnam Business Association, which currently boasts more than 130 members, was formed by Putnam business people as an effort to promote Putnam as a destination for visitors, diners, shoppers and tourists. Since its inception the PBA has been responsible for a number of events and promotions geared toward attracting individuals to spend time in Putnam as a “destination.”
“The formation of the organization started as an idea and has grown significantly in two years. Our members are active in promoting the businesses. The enthusiasm we’ve witnessed is remarkable,” said President Ronald P. Coderre.
In the last two years the PBA has organized the annual Pumpkin Fest, Holiday and Art Strolls, Earth Day Clean-up and other promotional events. The group has also worked cooperatively with other local events, such as the Memorial Day and Holiday Dazzle Light parades, the Car Cruise, and Oyster Fest, in ensuring their success.
“The success of our events can be directly attributable to the positive relationship the PBA has developed with our town and special services governments. The Mayor’s office, departments of public works, recreation and economic development departments as well as our police department are always available to assist whenever we run an event,” said Coderre.
As Coderre completes two years as president, he notes that the PBA will continue to move forward in working to improve the image of its downtown structures and developing a plan to better sign the community in an effort to link Old Towne Putnam with the Riverview Commons and the historic North End. The PBA has recently discussed the idea of hiring a part -time coordinator in order to more efficiently run and promote its activities.
“As we look to the future, the picture for Putnam and the PBA is positive. Working together we can make Putnam a destination for visitors. My dream is to someday have a trolley available to shuttle people to the various parts of town and surrounding communities,” said Coderre.
The slate of officers for 2011 includes Karen Osbrey, president; Romeo Blackmar, vice president; Linda Lamoureux, secretary; and Barbara Goloski, treasurer. PBA annual membership dues are $50. The association meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 8:30 a.m. at Victoria Station Café. Associate memberships are available to out-of-town businesses that do business in Putnam.
