During the groundbreaking for the new Audubon Grassland Bird Conservation Center in early October, two silos were all that were standing at the site of the former 1895 barn off Day Road in Pomfret. Every part of the old barn that could be used in the new center was saved and used. Putnam Town Crier file photo.

This is how the center is coming along. This photo was taken Dec. 12. Audubon officials hope that the shingles, siding, doors and windows will be installed by Christmas. The center is slated to open in June.
