DANIELSON —  The New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE) announced Quinebaug Valley Community College as co-recipient, along with Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU), of a 2011 New England Higher Education Excellence Award recognizing a dual enrollment initiative.
The NEBHE’s Robert J. McKenna Award for Program Achievement will be presented to the colleges at the NEBHE’s Annual Higher Education Excellence Awards Dinner  in March.
The Dual Enrollment Initiative is in its third year.  Partnering with Hartford Public High School, a cohort of 10 Hartford Public High School graduates co-enroll at QVCC and ECSU each fall.  All the students are full-time at the QVCC Willimantic Center in their first semester, while also taking one course at Eastern, living in Eastern’s residence halls and fully participating in campus activities.  Sixteen of the 19 students who enrolled in the program’s first two years are still enrolled at Eastern as sophomores and juniors.
