Hyde 60 Gann 51
Dec. 10: Both teams started out with a lot of momentum scoring fast and in thrilling fashion. Jalen Hill ’11 had another great game grabbing every rebound against the much smaller Gann team. The wolfpack rallied around his efforts to go on a run and took a big lead going into halftime, with the score Hyde 35, Gann 23. In the second half Chad Bryant ’11 came up big off the bench extending the lead, and giving Hyde a good advantage. Gann started coming back into the game late, but were still held short. Hyde showed resilience and toughness throughout the game and took control overall. Jalen Hill (17 points), showing lots of hustle and grit during the game, impressed all who came out to watch. Noah Bell ’11 came off the bench and scored 7 points. Chad Bryant also came off the bench and had some big points, hitting 2 three-pointers at crucial points in the game. Mike Cannon ’11 played well scoring 12 points. Jahvaney Beckford ’12 scored 10 points, 6 of which were big dunks.
The Wolfpack are now 3-1.

Hyde 12 Mt. Hermon: 72
The Hyde Wolf Pack Grapplers hosted their first meet of the year against some of the tougher teams in the league. Northfield Mount Hermon came with a stacked line-up with several returning wrestlers, many boasting All-American or New England Champion status. Although the day was heavily favoring NMH, the Wolf Pack rose to the challenge to fight hard on the mat. Both Peter Markham ’12 and Kenrick Vincent ’12 earned pins against their opponents, accounting for the 12 points for Hyde.
Hyde 21 Worcester Academy 36
The last match of the Hyde tri-meet was against Worcester Academy. The Wolf Pack entered the match with an internal fire and optimism that was great to see.
The line-ups initially favored the Wolf Pack, but Worcester had a coach who was great at strategizing with the weighs he had.
After shuffling their line-up around, Worcester came out on top in a close match.
Some notable matches of the night were Marcos Mercado ’13 who went 5 minutes with his opponent before losing by a questionable pin.
Also, Mac McGuire ’11 and James Ziede ’12 earned pins in weight classes above their usual weights.
Finally, Brian Sanz ’11 earned his first victory of the season with an aggressive pin against his opponent at the 215lb weight class.

Pomfret 44 St. Andrews 69
Dec. 10: The boys were visited by a very talented and big St. Andrew’s team, played pretty solidly but struggled on the glass as they didn’t box out and St. Andrew’s made the most of second and third chance shots.
The Griffs did move the ball much better than in game one.
Nic Lane led the team as he penetrated decisively and dished out a team-high 6 assists and collected a team-high 6 rebounds.
Danny Gagnon was the recipient of some nice passing and knocked down four three-point baskets and led the team in scoring with 16.
Kahari Beaufort continued to show glimpses of his potential and finished with 14 points, 5 assists, 5 steals and a monster block on an opponents dunk attempt.
Jack “The Sparkplug” Nicholson, known as Sparky from now on, played smart aggressive basketball and collected 3 rebounds and dished out 2 assists in short time.

Pomfret 3 Loomis 3 OT
Dec. 9: A thin – nine forwards, six defensemen, and two goalies – but determined Pomfret team made the quick trip to Windsor to take on the Pelicans of Loomis.
The Griffins were soon down another player, as defenseman Nick Bennett ’12 tweaked his knee on the second shift of the first period and did not return to action.
The opening frame was even across the board; neither team scored nor took a penalty, and Pomfret had 12 shots on goal to Loomis’ 11.
The game opened up in the second period as the teams traded two goals each in the final four minutes; Ray Zeek ’11 broke the goose egg when he slipped one by the Harvard-bound Loomis netminder, and Brian Miller ’12 put Pomfret up 2 – 1 with 1:05 remaining in the period on a determined drive to the net.
Loomis bounced back with a goal of their own with 24.3 seconds on the clock. Pomfret outshot Loomis 12 – 9 in the period.
Seven minor (2-minute) penalties were called in the third period, five on Loomis and two on Pomfret, but despite several good shots on the resulting powerplays, the Griffins could not find the twine.
Loomis did go up 3 – 2 with 2:50 remaining; just as coach Wolanin was about to pull goalie Nick Ellis ’13 in favor of an extra attacker, Billy Beirnes ’12 showed the team’s mental toughness when he tinked one in off the goalpost to knot the game at 3. Each team had a powerplay in the resulting overtime (OT) but did not score.
Ellis finished with 31 saves.
