Andrew Barylski Sr.
Pearl Harbor survivor
PUTNAM — Andrew Barylski Sr., 94, of Putnam, died Dec. 18, 2010, at Day Kimball Hospital. He was the husband of the late Jeannette (St. Germain) Barylski. She died in 1998.
He was born Aug. 16, 1919, in Newmarket, N.H.  He had made his home in Putnam and Thompson areas most of his life, was a communicant of St. Mary Church of the Visitation.
 He was a veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Army. He received an honorable discharge June 22, 1945, and is a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was employed at Parizek Button Shop, Belding Heminway and other textile and manufacturing mills in the area.  He was a past commander and life member of Mayotte-Viens Post 13 of The American Legion and Albert J. Breault Veterans of Foreign Wars # 1523, both of Putnam. He was also a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association.  Over the last 20 years Mr. Barylski has appeared in the VJ Day and the Memorial Day parades as a Pearl Harbor survivor. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family and friends.
He leaves his children, Andrew Barylski Jr. (Rita) of Putnam; Linda March (John) of Windsor, Gloria Ghirarduzzi (Aldo) of Glenns Falls, N.Y.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers Anthony and John.
The Funeral Service was Dec. 21 with burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Putnam, with military honors. Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam.

Robert E. LaRochelle,

N. GROSVENORDALE — Robert E. LaRochelle, 70 of Faucher Street, died unexpectedly Dec. 13, 2010, at home.  Born in 1940 in Putnam, he was the son of the late Elephege and Viola (Mathurin) LaRochelle
After graduating from Putnam High School, Mr. LaRochelle worked for the former Sanitary Dash Company for over 40 years.  He had also worked for Staples.  He was an active member of St. Joseph’s Church where he sang in the choir, and volunteered for the food pantry and the bingo.  He was currently serving as president for the Thompson Senior Citizens Association and was a member of the American Legion Post 67.  For many years, he belonged to the bowling league at the Friendly Bowl in Danielson.  He loved horses and enjoyed decorating for Christmas.
He leaves his son, John LaRochelle of N. Grosvenordale; two sisters, Jeannette Charland of Woodstock and Rita Watts of Frederick, Md.; two grandchildren, Robin LaRochelle and Sara LaRochelle.  He was the brother of the late Elephege LaRochelle and Theresa Geer.
The Mass of Christian Burial was Dec. 17 in St. Joseph Church, N. Grosvenordale, with burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Putnam. Donations: St. Joseph Church Food Pantry, 20 Main St., N. Grosvenordale, CT 06255. Valade Funeral Home, 23 Main St., N. Grosvenordale.

Chester W. Clark Jr.,
WWII vet
BROOKLYN — Chester (Chet) W. Clark Jr., 87, of Bunny Lane, died Dec. 18, 2010, at home.
He leaves his wife of 63 years, Therese (Godbout).  He was born March 27, 1923, the son of the late Chester and Emma (Marion) Clark and  attended Plainfield High School. On April 27, 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served during WWII until Nov. 10, 1945. As a third class petty officer aboard the destroyer USS Hansen, he served to protect shipping lanes in Newfoundland, Iceland, England, Africa and Gibraltar.  He also served in the European Theater Campaign and was involved in the Battle of Normandy. Stateside, he attended gunnery schools in Washington, D.C., and Pontiac, Mich.
After the war Mr. Clark worked for Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company. He then began work for the John Hancock Life Insurance Company as an insurance representative, where he stayed for 37 years. During his tenure with John Hancock he completed numerous courses and received many certificates and awards for salesmanship. After retiring, he enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling with his wife and he became an avid golfer.  Mr. Clark was a communicant of St. James Church in Danielson and was a member of the Killingly-Brooklyn Memorial Post 2650 VFW.
Besides he wife, he leaves son and daughter-in-law Brian Clark and Margaret (Duhnkrack) of Stamford; daughter and son-in-law Suzanne (Clark) and James Combs of Brooklyn; daughter and son-in-law Carol Anne (Clark) and Thomas Pahl of Ocracoke, N.C.; one sister, Barbara Donahue of Central Village; four brothers, Alan Clark of Brooklyn, Richard Clark of Moosup, Ralph Clark of Danielson, and Douglas Clark of Brooklyn; eight grandchildren, Odena, Kristine, Renee, Kari, Samuel, Ryan, Ellen, Emma; nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Clark was predeceased by three siblings, Russell Clark, Robert Clark and Beverly Pomroy.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 22, at from the Gagnon-Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds St., Danielson, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 a.m. at St. James Church, 12 Franklin St., Danielson. Burial with military honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Danielson.  Donations: St. James School, 120 Water St., Danielson, 06239.

Lorraine Deloge,

DANIELSON — Lorraine A. Deloge, 74,  of  Maple Courts, died Dec. 12, 2010, at Regency Heights in Danielson.  She was born Oct. 7, 1936, in Putnam, daughter of the late Raymond and Alexandria Allard.
She had made her home in Danielson for many years, the last two years were at the Regency Heights. Lorraine  was a communicant of St. James Church in Danielson. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and baking.
She leaves Rene Deloge Sr.; five children, Darlene Verraneault, Rene  Deloge Jr., Cathy Maillox, Raymond Deloge, Lori Deloge; too many grandchildren and not enough great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by a daughter Denise Bradley and a son Michael Deloge. 
The Funeral was Dec. 15 at Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds St., Danielson, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Danielson. Donations: Regency Heights, 111 Westcott  Road, Danielson, CT. 

John D. Duffy,

PUTNAM — John D. Duffy, 82 of Putnam, died Dec. 12, 2010, at home. He was born May 5, 1928, in Stoneham, Mass., and grew up in Sturbridge, and graduated from Mary E. Wells High School, Southbridge.  He was the son of the late Harold and Jean (McGuire) Duffy.
John loved his family, his country, his community, and all things Irish. He was an avid fan of the Red Sox, Patriots, Notre Dame Football, and UConn women’s basketball. He was a decorated soldier, and retired from the Air Force in 1972 as a Senior Master Sergeant having served two years in the Marine Corps, eight years in the Army, and 16 years in the Air Force. He served in WWII occupation forces in Japan and Germany. He was in the 2nd Infantry Division in the Korean War in 1951. As the U.S. transitioned out WWII, John was selected to work for General McArthur in Tokyo, Japan. John served at Bien Hoa Air Force Base in Vietnam. He received the Bronze Star for his service in combat from 1968 - 1969 while in Vietnam. He served his community in various organizations and positions. His memberships include: Albert J. Breault Veterans of Foreign Wars lifetime member Post 1523 where he served as Post Commander for three years and continued to serve as Post Adjutant for many years. It was with the VFW that he chaired the Ray Stevens Semi-Annual Dinner Dance for the Mentally Handicapped persons for many years. He was also a member of Post 67 American Legion, Air Force Sergeants Association, the Retired Enlisted Mens’ Association, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians in America.
He leaves behind three sons, Michael Duffy of Gainesville, Fla., Joseph Duffy (Elisha) of Putnam, Timothy Duffy (Nonet) of Kapaa, Hawaii; one daughter, Mary Schlehofer (Glenn) of Pomfret Center; stepdaughter Kim Ewing of Baltimore, Md.; sister Joan Gauthier of Port Orange, Fla.; grandchildren: Jessica Duffy, James Bartolomei III (Suzanne), Lesley Young (Douglas), Amber Ewing, Timothy Jr., Patrick, Renie, and Sandy Duffy; Ashley and Samantha Duffy; and Amanda and Kirstin Martin; great-grandchildren; lifelong friend, Charles Mahoney. He was predeceased by his wife, Irene Duffy;  two sons Thomas Duffy and John Duffy Jr.; brothers William Duffy, Emery Duffy, Raymond Duffy; sisters Elizabeth Hayes, and Lillian Tutino.

Marie Gasiorek,
Good Samaritan
DANIELSON — Marie Irene Laura Gasiorek, 93, of Danielson, died Dec. 17, 2010, at Regency Heights.
She was born July 25, 1917, in Manchaug, Mass., daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Lamoure) Frechette. She was the wife of the late Henry Gasiorek; they were married on Nov. 11, 1944. He died in 1995. She was a communicant of St. James Church in Danielson. She worked for Arrow-Hart and retired after 62 years. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, hairdressing, sewing and was an avid walker. She was a true Good Samaritan.
She leaves her daughter, Anne Marie Peckham of Danielson; son Henry Gasiorek Jr. (Michele) of Dayville; brothers, Leo Frechette of Danielson and Ernest Frechette of Moosup; sister Rita Spear of Brooklyn;  grandchildren, Krista Peckham of Dunnellon, Fla., Kimberly Painter of Willimantic, and Leslie Allard (John)  of Danielson, Henry Gasiorek III (Julie) of Ballouville and great-grandchildren

Dorthea Belt,
WWII vet
THOMPSON --- Dorthea Rasneor Belt, 90, of Thompson and of Nicholls, Ga. died Dec. 3, 2010, at  home. Her husband of 59 years, Dr. Warner Duane Belt, died in 2009.
She was born and raised in Springfield, Ohio, daughter of Oscar and Nora A. (Duellmann) Rasneor. She graduated from Springfield High School  and the Springfield City Hospital School of Nursing. She studied operating room technique and supervision at Yale School of Nursing in New Haven. After WWII she earned a bachelor's in biological science from Ohio State University and completed graduate work in anatomy and anesthesiology.
She was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving as an operating room nurse in France, Belgium and Germany. She separated from the service with the rank of captain. Dotty was a registered nurse and certified registered nurse anesthetist and was employed most recently by the University Hospital Medical College in Richmond, Va., by Symmes Hospital in Arlington, Mass., and by Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Mass. She retired in 1975.
 Dotty was active in the Girl Scouts of America as a youth and as an adult leader; she was an artist and enjoyed painting during her working years. In her retirement, she enjoyed horses and trail riding and belonged to the Littleton Horse Owner’s Association, the New England Horse and Trail Association, and the Cross State Trail Ride. 
She was a skilled  silversmith and jewelry designer and was a past member of the Lexington Arts and Crafts Society. She enjoyed water sports, downhill skiing, gardening, world travel and digital photography.
She leaves her children: Judith Belt Dedinsky (Joseph) of Chelmsford, Mass.,, Stephen Warner Belt (Pauline Ward Belt) of Cortland, N.Y., and Barbara Belt and her husband Jim Bonnette of Thompson; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Morgan Belt of Nicholls; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother in law; a family friend, Mandi Zdanis of Plainfield.
She was predeceased by her son David Duane Belt; a sister Mildred Rasneor Wilson. Scanlon Funeral Service, Webster.
