WOODSTOCK --- Linda Bernardi, tax collector for the Town of Woodstock, recently became a Certified Connecticut Municipal Collector, CCMC.
The certification process entails enrolling in and passing four successive classes in Introduction to Connecticut Tax Collection Administration and Law, Connecticut Municipal Tax Collection Enforcement, Municipal Finance Administration and Management, and Connecticut Government, Supervision, and Public Relations. Mrs. Bernardi was also required to pass the state certification exam. The certification process is completed upon three years of experience in the job.
Bernardi has been the tax collector in Woodstock since November of 2007. In fiscal year 2008, her first full year in the position, she managed to collect 101.3 percent of the town’s projected budget.
In fiscal year 2009, 101.9 percent of the budget was collected. The excess funds collected contribute to the town’s General Fund, which helps with bond ratings and allow for the town to remain financially stable. Bernardi said she commends residents of the town and all Woodstock taxpayers for having been so diligent with their payments in the past few years, especially in the light of such difficult economic times.
