Hockey Begins

On Jan. 2 Griffin Youth Hockey dropped the puck on their 37th season at Pomfret School with two Atoms Division games. 
The first game of the season had the Avalanche facing the Bruins.  This matchup ended in Avalanche’s favor with a 4-3 win over the Bruins.  In their win, the Avalanche’s Robert Totten was credited with two goals, Nick Alessandro was credited with one goal, Grant Alessandro was credited with one goal and Marco Suriano had one goal, one assist and Avalanche goaltender, Connor Bavosi stopping 19 shots. 
The second game of the day had the Lightning facing the Red Wings. The Red Wings started hot with six goals in the first period, five of which were unanswered. 
Although the Lightning clearly owned the third period with a three-goal run, they could not make up for falling behind in the first period. By game’s end, the final score had the Red Wings over the Lightning 10-5.  In their win, the Red Wings’ William Bernier received a hat trick for his three goals, Dawson Normington was credited with two goals, two assists, Maia Lineberry netted a goal, Collin Delsanto netted two goals with one assist, Jordan Bartlett was credited with one goal, two assists, with Jake Farrell, Ryan Wojciechowski, Zack Smith, Melissa Browne being credited with assists. 
Red Wings’ goaltender Bethany Oliver stopped 10 of 15 shots on goal.  Lightning skater Jordan Lamothe scored four of the five Lightning’s five.
