HARTFORD — Several local businesses were recently honored at the 10th annual CT Specialty Food Association’s Product Awards Competition. A total of 329 specialty food items from Connecticut-based manufacturers were entered into 38 categories. Judges consisting of local media personalities, food writers, and chefs from the CT Department of Agriculture’s Farm-to-Chef Program scored products on overall taste/flavor, consistency/texture, appeal, and color.
Categories included breads, cheese, confections, CT Grown, fruits and vegetables, gift packs, gluten-free, organic, pasta sauces, savory condiments, snack foods, wines, beers, ales and distilled spirits. Local winners include: Taylor Brook Winery of Woodstock, second place, white wine, Traminette; The Farmer’s Cow, with local connections in Woodstock, first place, packaging; Westford Hill Distillers of Ashford, first place award for New World Aged Apple Brandy distilled spirits and second place for Poire Prisonniere Brandy, distilled spirits.
