NECONN
U14 soccer
beats Hebron
Oct. 20, the NECONN boys’ U14 soccer team hosted Hebron.  When the two teams played earlier in the season, Hebron defeated NECONN by the score of 3-2.  This time around, NECONN turned the tables and came away with an exciting 3-1 victory.
Hebron would get on the board first with about seven minutes left in the first half when they intercepted a clearing pass in the NECONN defensive end of the field and converted on the ensuing shot to give them the lead.  The lead was short-lived, though, for NECONN’s Evan Cunningham would go on a 30-yard run behind the Hebron defense and get the equalizer with just seconds left on the first half clock.  NECONN’s midfield play of Sam Paul, Marco Suriano, Ethan Werstler and Tristan Anderson was key throughout the half in limiting Hebron’s possession time and providing the link to the offense.
In the second half, NECONN’s defense really stepped up.  Cal Wilcox, Zach Gagnon, Travis Hayward, Garrett Sward and William Liscomb all rotated through and did a tremendous job keeping Hebron a bay.  Forwards Ian Sohan, William Hamill and Josh Resnick came close a number of times, but it wasn’t until nine minutes left in the game when Ryan Black slid a perfect through ball to Cunningham.  Evan galloped in alone on the Hebron keeper and slid a low liner into the left corner to give the team a 2-1 lead.  Hebron did not quit and pushed people forward to try to get the equalizer.  NECONN goalie Elijah Dufour made a tremendous save to preserve the lead, and then Black would give the team breathing room when he finished off a nice through ball from Max Paro to end the game.
NECONN finishes off the regular season Oct. 28 when they host the team from Ellington on the Pomfret School campus at 1:30 p.m.
