$1,000 to Arc
PUTNAM — The Arc Quinebaug Valley received a $1,000 Foundation Grant from the Greater Hartford Automobile Dealers Association, as sponsored by Putnam Ford.
Putnam Ford owner Rick Place said,  “We wanted to bring some of the money from the foundation to our area. It’s important to know that the money will be used to help a great local agency.” Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations throughout Connecticut which serve community needs and enhance the quality of life in the state.
“We are very grateful to the Foundation and to Rick Place for their support of our mission.” said The Arc’s Executive Director Susan Desrosiers.  “The money will be used to help in the construction of an accessible bathroom and training kitchen at our Education Center on Cook Hill Road in Danielson.”
The Arc provides programs and supports to individuals with intellectual, developmental and other life-affecting disabilities and their families.  This past year The Arc’s Capital Campaign raised enough money for the installation of an elevator at the facility.
“This grant will help us to continue to make improvements to our facility which will help us to serve more children from area school systems,” said Desrosiers.  The Education Program provides children and young adults age 3 to 21 years old services which are aligned with their Individual Education Plan (IEP).  The plan is designed in conjunction with The Arc, the students, their family and the school system.  The programs teach life skills, employment and social skills and community involvement.  The programs are multi-layered designed to address individual needs.
