Approximately one-third of the way through the winter basketball season two teams remain undefeated. The Woodstock boys of coach Greg Smith continue to surprise with a perfect 7-0 log. The Centaurs are being led by Ian Converse and Chris Lowry. Meanwhile, Pomfret School due to return from holiday break soon is sporting a 6-0 record. The Griffins are paced by the scoring and rebounding of Morgan Olander, who is headed to Bryant University next year.
Scoring Races
The race to the top for the individual scoring leadership is a battle of two players each in the boys’ and girls’ scoring parade. Tourtellotte’s Kaevon Stafford, a guy who can blow by most defenses, and Ian Converse of Woodstock, who has emerged as a legitimate force are leading the men’s race. Cashmir Sulcher of Hyde-Woodstock and Plainfield’s all around star Morgan Griffin are running one and two in the ladies race.

Notes
The Clipper Classic crowned the host Lady Clippers as girls’ champions with a 36-30 victory in the title contest over the Tourtellotte Lady Tigers. In the boys’ title game, Killingly, under new head coach Jimbo Crabtree, ran past the upstart Ellis Tech Eagles 57-35 in the championship contest.
Putnam’s Ashley Espinosa was named girls’ tourney MVP. She was joined on the all-star team by her teammates Monica Phongsa and Cynthia Briere, Taylor Sarty of Ellis Tech, Ashley Thibodeau of Parish Hill and Nicole Dion of Tourtellotte.
The All-Academic team was composed of Sarty of Killingly, Delaney Stearns of Parish Hill, Espinosa of Putnam and Colyn Petre of Tourtellotte.
The boys’ tourney MVP was Max Graves of Killingly. Three other Redmen, Devon Willard, Austin Taylor and Nick Hewitt, were selected for the all tourney team along with Stafford of Tourtellotte and Brad Harriot of Ellis Tech.
Mike Jezierski of Tourtellotte, Tum Tum Souriyamath of Killingly, Sean McKinney of Ellis Tech and Alec Fontaine of Putnam were name to the All-Academic squad.
