WATERFORD — Charter Oak Federal Credit Union has promoted Sonya Armstrong and Michael Ballirano to assistant vice presidents and regional retail managers.
Armstrong had served as the branch officer of Charter Oak’s Dayville, Willimantic and Killingly High School branches. She began her career with Charter Oak as a teller and continued on as a Member Service Representative and Work Leader before being promoted to branch manager in April 2008. She was promoted to branch officer in June 2014.
She is a graduate of the Credit Union League of Connecticut’s Executive Education Program. Armstrong serves as Treasurer of the Brooklyn Cub Scout Pack 44 and is a member of the Killingly Business Association.
Ballirano, who joined Charter Oak in 2011, had served as the branch officer of the Mohegan Sun Branch and was promoted several times.

Grants made
JEWETT CITY — The Jewett City Savings Bank Foundation recently awarded awarded 34 grants totaling $31,000 to more than two dozen providers of emergency services including: South Killingly Fire District in Danielson will use its $1,000 grant to partially cover the cost of two sets of fire gear; annual support to Dayville Fire Company, E. Killingly Fire Department.

PUTNAM — A former employee of Someplace Special in Putnam was charged with first-degree larceny, accused of the embezzlement of more than $36,000.
March 27, Galen Gardner, 49, of 14 First St., Plainfield, was taken into custody based on an active arrest warrant issued by Danielson Superior Court for first-degree larceny.
The Putnam Police Department said the warrant was issued after a lengthy investigation by Putnam Police into the alleged embezzlement of more than $36,000.00 during the course of a five-year span from 2014 through 2018 from Someplace Special.
He was subsequently released on a $10,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Danielson Superior Court on April 10.
