PUTNAM — Theatre of Northeastern CT at the Bradley Playhouse awarded $20,000 grant to help get them through the pandemic
The Theatre of Northeastern Connecticut was selected by Jewett City Savings Bank (JCSB) to receive a $20,000 grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston’s Jobs for New England recovery grant program. The Bradley board of directors said: “We are especially grateful to Jewett City Savings Bank and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston for recognizing our theatre’s invaluable contribution to the local economy and the key role The Bradley Playhouse has in the community. We are thankful for this huge boost during dark days to provide the help we need to move towards a re-opening when the time comes.”
The Jobs for New England Recovery Grant Program was offered by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston to member financial institutions in 2020 to assist small businesses and non-profit organizations that have experienced significant losses due to the pandemic. As a member, Jewett City Savings Bank was able to reserve grant funds for eligible organizations in the Bank’s service area. JCSB focused its support to those organizations that had limited opportunities to participate in other funding sources that became available through the CARES Act and other government programs.

PUTNAM — Since 1997 the Putnam Rotary Interact Club has coordinated bell-ringing efforts for the Salvation Army Kettle campaign. They’ve helped raise more than $200,000 total.
Despite COVID-19, this year is no different. This year the kettles will be located outside of Putnam Price Chopper, Putnam Supermarket, Walmart and the WINY Radio parking lot.
Collections will be made from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 27, Nov. 28, Dec. 5, Dec. 12 and Dec. 19.
All volunteers will be wearing masks and will be 6 feet from the kettle. The kettles will be sanitized throughout the day.
This year, Walmart has three ways of giving to the Salvation Army: At the register, buying an item listed on the store’s Giving Tree or depositing money in the kettle.
Donations at WINY Radio’s parking lot are drive-thru. Volunteers will hold out collection baskets.
The money collected in the kettles stays locally, assisting Daily Bread, TEEG and other charitable groups that assist the needy.
The Putnam Rotary Interact Club and the Salvation Army thanked all those who volunteer as bell ringers. For more information please contact Roberta Rocchetti at 860- 933-8603.
