DANIELSON — A ceremony honoring veterans, including the presentation of Wartime Service Medals, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 11, at Quinebaug Valley Community College’s Danielson campus.
The ceremony will include the dedication of 39 new bricks in the Veterans Garden walkway, each of which honors a veteran.
More than 400 bricks already lie in the garden, which was created in 2010 with the goal of having a place where local veterans could be honored and remembered.
Since then, the garden has grown from a simple brick walkway, to plants via horticulture advice from Masters Gardner Service, and a memorial bench.
This year new flags will be raised in the garden. Representative Joe Courtney and State Senator Mae Flexer will be among the speakers.
Nov. 14, the Veterans Connection photo exhibit will open in the college’s Spirol Gallery.
The very personal photo exhibit, which honors veterans from the QVCC community, was conceived two years ago as a way to recognize and honor military service.
Each year new photos are added to the exhibit, which provides a tangible way to show the student body that the college has pride in its military family members.
The opening reception will be held at 6 p.m. Nov. 17 in the gallery. The exhibit runs through Nov. 30.
The Veterans Day ceremony, photo exhibit, and reception are open to the public.
