STERLING --- Carousel Horse Farm has been making charitable contributions to the equine community for many years. Owner Lisa Ledoux, held four horse shows at the Woodstock fairgrounds this year and she has created the “Ride for a Cause” Class. At each show, the entry fees from the class called Walk-Trot Pleasure Classic which is open to all riders and riding disciplines, go to a different charity.
This year Pace For A Purpose was the recipient of the July “Ride for a Cause” class. The winning rider of this special class was Kelli Bennett. The Pace for a Purpose is an equestrian fund-raiser to benefit the DKH Deary Memorial Cancer Fund which helps people in our community battle cancer. The Pace For A Purpose, sponsored by the Pomfret Hunter Pace, will be held Oct. 7 at Tyrone Farm in Pomfret.
Other 2012 “Ride for a Cause” recipients include Assateague Island Alliance, protecting the island’s wild horse population, Communication Alliance to Network Thoroughbred Ex-Racehorses (CANTER) providing retired thoroughbred racehorses with opportunities for new careers, and Equitarian Initiative, a group of equine veterinarians and caregivers looking to provide education, leadership and assistance to the working equid and by extension their families. Hats off to Lisa and her crew who provide this wonderful opportunity to support our community as well as the equine community at large.
