Adelard J. Cotnoir,

THOMPSON — Adelard J. “Del” Cotnoir, 80, of Quaddick Road, formerly of Clarence Drive, Quaddick, died Sept. 11, 2012 at home. Born in 1932 in Putnam, he was the son of the late Hector and Olina (Dumas) Cotnoir.
Del started out working at Gammino Construction and then went on to own and operate Del’s Trucking and Excavation. He was a member of the Elks, Valley Springs Sportsman’s Club, and the Thompson Rod & Gun Club. He liked to play cards, mostly cribbage and pitch. He was known for holding an annual Fourth of July cookout for all of his family and friends.
He leaves his sons, Jeffrey Cotnoir (Brenda) of E. Putnam, Bruce Cotnoir (Korey) of Webster, Glenn Cotnoir and his girlfriend Nancy of Thompson, and Gary Cotnoir of Pascoag; daughters, Charlotte Jablonski (Ray) of Thompson, Donna Hall and boyfriend Pete of Thompson, and Laurie Bellanceau (Leo) of Thompson; sisters, Marie Cusson of Manchester, N.H., and Elizabeth Lajoie of Florida; nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren; former wife, Mary of Pascoag. He was predeceased by his brothers, Wilbur Cotnoir, and Nelson Cotnoir; and his sister, Jacqueline Cusson.

Eva Marie Houle,

THOMPSON — Eva Marie Houle, 43, of Quaddick Road, died Sept. 13, 2012, in the home of her mother Shirley J. Houle of Grosvenordale after an 11-year battle with breast cancer.
She was born in 1969. Eva was a 1987 graduate of Tourtellotte Memorial High School where she was a standout athlete in softball, basketball, and soccer. She was the first female athlete of the school to be inducted into the Tourtellotte High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010. She was a dedicated softball player throughout her life. She started playing at the young age of 8 and played her last game at the age of 40 due to her declining health. She participated in several Connecticut and Massachusetts leagues after college, becoming well known throughout the area for her speed, agility, and plays on the field. She graduated from Becker Junior College in 1989 and Eastern Connecticut State University in 1991. Prior to her battle with breast cancer, she was employed by Arbella Insurance in Worcester and Westoboro, Mass.
As an Aunt, there was nothing like her. She doted over all of her nieces and nephews. They were a bright spot in her life and meant the world to her. In addition to her mother, she leaves her fiancé with whom she was engaged to since 2005, William “Jack” Maloney Jr. of Thompson; father Lawrence O. Houle Sr. of Brooklyn; brothers, Lawrence O. Houle Jr. (Beverly) of Grosvenordale, Rene C. Houle of Grosvenordale, Jean C. “Plooky” Houle and his fiancé Jona Hagen of Rapid City,S.D., Phillip T. Houle of Grosvenordale, and Daniel L. Houle and James Keegan of Boston; sisters, Virginia L. Houle of N. Grosvenordale, and Valentine (Houle) Iamartino (Joseph) of Thompson; her nieces and nephews, Jenelle Burke and her daughters Brileigh and Brooke Sundthimer of Putnam, Lindsey Burke of Old Saybrook, Nicole Houle of Rockton, Ill., Kaitlyn Burke and her daughters Jesseniah and Giovanna Diaz of Danielson, Jonathon Houle and his son Caleb of Audubon MN, and Christian, Marissa and Alexander Iamartino of Thompson; her father’s second wife, Kim Houle; and her half-sister, Laurel O. Houle both of Brooklyn; three cats, Fenway, Duncan, and Chino. She was predeceased in 2001 by her brother Shawn T. Houle and in 2008 by her beloved dog, Mocha.

Diane Rachel
McAdams
BROOKLYN — Diane Rachel McAdams, 92, of Canterbury Road, died Sept. 9, 2012, at the Pierce Memorial Baptist Home. She was the wife of the late George McAdams. Born in 1920 in New Market, N.H., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Amanda (Fontaine) Landry.
As a younger person, Mrs. McAdams was a sister in the Daughters of the Holy Spirit and taught in the Catholic school system. Later in life, she worked as a manager for Brooks Pharmacy and as a highway toll collector for the State of Connecticut.
Diane enjoyed traveling extensively with her husband George through the continental U.S. as well as Alaska. Before moving back to Windham County, she lived many years in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Diane, who was predeceased by her brother and six sisters, leaves several nieces and nephews.

James H. Mee,
WWII vet
DANIELSON — James “Jim” H. Mee Jr., died Sept. 9, 2012. Jim was born Jan. 7, 1926, in Binghamton, N.Y., the youngest son of Anna and James Mee. Jim married the love of his life, Marie Wilcox on June 6, 1951, in Binghamton.
Jim enlisted in the U.S. Marines at the age of 16 and served in the 1st Marine Division at Okinawa and North China during WWII.
After the war, Jim attended Bliss Electrical School in Washington, D.C., and went on to work for NYS Electric & Gas in Binghamton area and then spent 30 years with IBM as an aerospace engineer. Jim was on the team of engineers that sent the first man to orbit the moon and then later set the first man on the moon.
After he retired, Jim and his wife Marie studied and became master gardeners while living in Florida; volunteered at the Corpus Christi Food Pantry in Nashua, N.H., and the Friends Of Assisi Food Pantry in Danielson.
Jim was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. Jim always referred to Marie as his bride.
He leaves his wife, Marie; four children, Dr. Anna Lobosco, Dr. Jean Mee, Jeff Mee and Judy Rosenthal, sons-in-law Chuck Lobosco and Scott Rosenthal; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The Funeral Mass was Sept. 13 in St. James Church, Danielson. He will be interred at the Saratoga National Cemetery with military honors later. Donations: St. James School, 120 Water St. Danielson, CT 06239. Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds St., Danielson.

Johnson Norman
WOODSTOCK — Ruth A.C. Johnson Norman, 90. of Woodstock, died Sept. 16, 2012, at Matulaitis Nursing Home in Putnam. She was the wife of Harry C. Norman who died July 3. 2009.
She was born Oct. 13, 1921, in Woodstock, daughter of the late Ernest and Ruth (Petterson) Johnson. Living in the Johnson home all her life, she married Harry, Oct. 21, 1944. She moved to Matulaitis in December of 2008 to be with her husband Harry.
After graduation from Woodstock Academy she worked for the Town of Woodstock for several years. She served on the Woodstock Academy Board of Trustees. She was a loving example of the Proverbs 31 woman. Ruth was a lifelong member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, often playing the organ and piano. She worked beside her husband in their greenhouses for over 50 years. For over 30 years she assisted Harry, working on the grounds of the Word of Life Camps in Schroon Lake, N.Y. Ruth served in the Auxiliary of the Gideon Northeast Camp.
She leaves her sons; Clayton Norman (Joy) of New Milford, Carl Norman (Nancy) of Woodstock, grandchildren. Jason Norman (Melissa) of Elizabethtown, Penn., Michael Norman (Jenn) of Eastford, and Joanna Fitte (Rich) of Woodstock; great grandchildren; Drew. Aubrey, Rayne and Mitchell.
Graveside and Memorial Services will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 22, at Elmvale Cemetery, Woodstock. Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam.
Lawrence E. Tuttle,
worked at Rectory
BOXFORD, Vt. — Lawrence E. Tuttle, 87, of Boxford, formerly of Saxtons River, Vt., and S. Woodstock, died Sept. 6, 2012, at Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Peabody.
Born July 23, 1925, in Evanston, Ill., to Arthur Farwell Tuttle and Margaret Houghteling Tuttle, he was educated at Brooks School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy; after completing his service, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Yale and later a master’s degree in education from Harvard. He married the former Elizabeth Gordon Davis of Woodstock on June 16, 1948.
After serving again with the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict, Mr. Tuttle began a lifelong career in secondary school education at Avon Old Farms School, then St. George’s School in Middletown, R.I., then Brooks School in N. Andover, Mass. He left there in 1959 to assume the headmaster’s post at Vermont Academy in Saxtons River, and he returned to Brooks in 1965 and remained there in teaching and administrative posts until 1983, earning the title Master Emeritus for distinguished service to the school.
Relocating to S. Woodstock, Mr. Tuttle worked in the development offices of The Rectory School, Pomfret, The Gordon School, E. Providence, and Old Sturbridge Village, before retiring in the early 1990s.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Mr. Tuttle enjoyed playing golf, tennis and squash and coaching the students at the schools where he taught; he also served for several years as the summer tennis and golf pro at the Fox Run Resort in Ludlow, Vt, near the family’s longtime vacation home in Proctorsville.
He leaves his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth Davis Tuttle; five children, Elizabeth Dorrance (Dorrie) Ellsworth, Lawrence E. (Emerson) Tuttle Jr., Harriot (Hatsy) T. McGraw, Peter B. Tuttle, and Catherine T. DeSalvo and their spouses; a sister, Marcia T. Knowles; a half-sister, Felicity F. Tuttle; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Raymond Szarkowicz,
Korean war vet
DAYVILLE — Raymond W. Szarkowicz, 84, of Mason Hill Road, died Sept. 10, 2012, at home. He was born Sept. 5, 1928, on the family farm in Ballouville, son of the late Frank and Magdalena (Stojda) Szarkowicz. He was a 1946 graduate of Killingly High School.
Ray was a veteran of the Korean war serving with the U.S. Army. He was employed for 36 years for FC Davis in Danielson as tank truck driver, he was last employed by JP Noonan, retiring in 1993. Ray also was a truck driver for the former Powdrell and Alexander. He owned and operated the family dairy farm on Mason Hill Road, with his brother Joseph for several years. Ray was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Dayville and the former St. Anne Church in Ballouville. He enjoyed Polka dancing and Polka music.
He leaves a brother Joseph Szarkowicz of New Britain; a sister Mary Chrabaszcz of Willimantic; his nephew and constant companion Mark Rzeznikiewicz of Dayville. He was predeceased by brothers Frank, John, Stephen; sisters Frances Luczak, Victoria Samborski and Anne Rzeznikiewicz.

Nancy Urban
PUTNAM — Nancy Urban, 61, of Regency Heights in Danielson, formerly of Little River Acres in Putnam, died Aug. 24, 2012, at UMass Hospital in Worcester.
She was born Oct. 15, 1951, in Worcester, daughter of the late Richard and Doris (Carlson) Urban.
She loved living at Regency Heights and talked about it often. She liked to socialize and play games with the other residents. She liked Bingo, puzzles, games, rock collecting, cats, Redhats and reading.
She leaves a brother Jack Urban (Patty) of Putnam; niece Shana Newman, great-niece, Abie Newman, great-nephew Austin Newman, and relatives from Massachusetts. She was predeceased by her brother Richard John Urban Jr. in 1999.
