POMFRET — Seventeen years ago, Brad Seaward, senior master at The Rectory School, jumped at the chance to combine two passions of his: basketball and outreach. The result was Hoops for Hunger, a free basketball clinic with a great hook. The price of “admission” is a canned good to help families in northeastern Connecticut. At the same time, the clinic satisfies the craving among Rectory’s varsity basketball players to be on the court, while it gives local youngsters some game tactics and ball handling skills from these talented players. The varsity team assists Seaward in teaching foundations of the game and running the drills. Mary Lou Seaward, Brad’s wife and Rectory tutor, responded, “It’s a win-win-win situation.”
The clinics, open to kids ages 8 through 13, take place from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Oct. 20, 27 and Nov. 3 at Colhoun Gymnasium on the Rectory campus.
