dominate
PUTNAM — The Putnam girls’ varsity basketball team continues to pulverize their opponents, Dec. 20 smashing University High by a score of 50 to 21.

Pomfret School
Ice Hockey
Pomfret 2 Middlesex 2
Dec. 18: Both teams started out slow in our third and final game in less then 24 hours. The first period saw a lot of neutral zone play and Pomfret kept losing the puck on the offensive blue line. Coach Rowe talked to the girls about digging deep and making the simple plays between periods. The pace picked up in the second, but it was Middlesex who took the 1-0 lead heading into the third.
The third period turned out to be the best period of hockey that Pomfret played in the 24-hour span. Jordan Lipson scored her third goal of the tournament just forty seconds in the third with assists going to Lilah Fones and Ashley Anctil. With the game tied at one, Middlesex shortened its bench and began to pressure even harder. They scored with just under 10 remaining in the third to go up by one.
Instead of giving up the girls came right back and scored less then a minute later to tie the game again. Candace Lu scored with Ashley Anctil getting her second assist of the game. Senior leaders Brooke Bytalan, Cassie Catlow and Lilah Fones all stepped up to generate offensive chances for Pomfret.
Pomfret dominated play for the rest of the third period and all of the overtime, but just could not seem to find the back of the net.

Hyde
Varsity Basketball
Hyde 9  Marianapolis  59
Dec. 16 Hyde Woodstock started their league play against Marianapolis.  The team was outmatched both offensively and defensively. In the first half the Wolfpack managed to score only two points to Marianapolis’ 34. The second half proved to be more of the same with Marianapolis beating Hyde down the court for easy lay ups. Hyde has many things to work on including their ability to remain poised when things are not going as planned. The scoring: Becca Katz ’12, 1-0-2, Mari Barnett ’11, 1-1-3, Andrea Crute ’12, 2-0-4.  The team’s next game is against Lincoln.
Hyde 24  Lincoln 59
Dec. 15: Woodstock played last year’s SENE champion Lincoln. They were formidable last year and they are formidable this year having both size and solid guard play. Hyde fared better on the score board then the last game with 10 points in the first half and improving on that in the second half. Woodstock’s defensive effort and overall fighting spirit in the game was better, as well. Their performance was a vast improvement from Friday’s game.  Scoring: Mari Barnett ’12, 1-0-2, Sam Sallarulo ’13, 3-0-8, including two three pointers, Lara Cornelius ’11, 0-5-5, and Andrea Crute ’12, 2-5-9.
