PSA win-lose
PUTNAM — After starting the season 3-0 at home the Putnam Science Academy Mustangs hit the road to New Haven for the National Prep Showcase featuring the top prep school programs in the nation.
The Mustangs were able to earn a hard fought victory Nov. 17 against Link Year Prep (MO) by a final score of 76-68.
The Mustangs took a 35-30 lead into halftime as Kyle Lofton (10 points) and Josh Mballa (10 points) lead the way.
Link Year Prep would not go away as they fought back in the second half to take a brief lead halfway through the second half.
The Mustangs promptly made a run of their own as Jose Perez once again stepped up big as he scored a game-high 17 points and 8 rebounds.
The Mustangs also had contributions from two of their youngest players as Hassan Diarra chipped in with 10 points and Demarr Langford Jr had five points including a clutch three-pointer to extend the late lead.
Varsity Falls
The Upper Room Christian Royals defeated the Putnam Science Academy Mustangs by a score of 97-78 Nov. 16 atop the Maple Street campus.
The Mustangs were led in defeat by post grad guard Danny Ampofo who had 25 points. Alex Morrow and Seth Thomas contributed with 14 and 12 points respectively. Both Morrow and Thomas also had 8 rebounds.
In the first half Jaiden Rivera provided a spark off the bench after a slow start for the Mustangs and ended up with 10 points. The Mustangs will be back in action at 5 p.m. Nov. 28 when they will host Capital Prep.
