First home meet
POMFRET — In the Pomfret School’s girls’ cross country team’s first home meet Pomfret won, 18-53-58 against Cheshire Academy and The Gunnery.
Tri-captain Maria Tews led for the entirety of the race and earned a new home course personal best (22:00), 56 seconds faster than her time in 2017.
Although Gunnery was able to clinch second place, Pomfret pack runners Josephine Myung, Bella Canavan, tri-captain Chelsey Castle, and Mallory Krasusky took places 3 through 6, effectively shutting out the competition and guaranteeing the win.
The 6th and 7th varsity runners, Shoshana Lebo and Cindy Chen, ran hard and displaced runners from both Cheshire and The Gunnery, adding an exclamation point to the win and further distancing Pomfret from the competition.
Both Yubing Yang and Anastasiia Eremina earned new personal home course best times.
Nhu Vo channeled her pre-race nerves to run a strong race, finishing within seconds of her 2017 home course best.
