Stream habitat
workshop set
As part of a Natchaug River Healthy Watershed Planning Project, the Eastern Connecticut Conservation District is hosting a free online workshop focused on cold water stream habitat. It will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. June 30 in a Zoom meeting format.

Water Monitoring Program Supervisor Chris Bellucci of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CT DEEP) will give an overview of cold water stream habitats, why they are important to the bugs and fish that live in them, and why they are threatened. Chris and his staff have collected data on cold water streams and the bugs and fish that live in them. They have mapped this information in a publically accessible online database.

Learn how you can access this database and use it to make land use change decisions, reduce impacts from your next building project, or predict where you might find a good fishing spot.
The Natchaug watershed includes the towns of Ashford, Eastford, Chaplin, Mansfield, Union, Willington, Windham and Woodstock. Volunteer land use regulatory officials, conservation commission members, planners, wetland officials, builders, landowners with river or lake frontage, and people who fish or are just interested in river ecology will all learn useful information from this program.
The Natchaug Watershed Healthy Watershed Implementation Plan project is funded in part by a US EPA Clean Water Act ยง 319 non-point source pollution grant through the CT DEEP.
