The Last Green Valley’s (TLGV) Cleanup Contest, inspired by the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, has been extended through Aug. 31. Prizes will be awarded each month for the most garbage collected and the most unusual item found. Every kid 15 and under who participates will also win a cool prize.
The winners of the first edition of the cleanup contest were: Kathy Doiron of Danielson collected 190 lbs. of trash from her 8-foot dingy over the course of 40 hours. She also walked a mile of road to pick up trash; Micha Gutt of Chaplin collected about 100 lbs. of trash but certainly collected the most unusual item when he found a set of false teeth; four children from several towns also collected trash, winning a prize. Together they collected more than 50 lbs. of trash.
