Town of Pomfret
The Town of Pomfret adopted the following ordinance at the Special Town Meeting of March 1, 2021: “Ordinance Establishing Four-Year Terms of Office for the Pomfret First Selectman, Members of the Board of Selectmen and Treasurer.” Said ordinance shall become effective March 26, 2021, or fifteen (15) days after its publication in a newspaper having a general circulation in the Town of Pomfret.
ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING FOUR-YEAR TERMS OF OFFICE FOR THE POMFRET FIRST SELECTMAN, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN AND TREASURER
Pursuant to Sections 9-187, 9-187a, 9-189 and 9-189a of the Connecticut General Statutes, commencing with the next regular election after this ordinance is adopted, and thereafter, the terms of office for the offices of First Selectman, Selectmen, and Treasurer shall be four years from the day each such term begins. The terms of the offices of First Selectman, Selectmen, and Treasurer shall begin on the second Tuesday next following the day of the municipal election at which such officials are elected. The terms for any of the above offices shall continue until a successor for such office is elected and has qualified. All provisions of any ordinance of the town of Pomfret that are inconsistent with this ordinance are hereby repealed. This ordinance shall become effective 15 days after the date of publication.

The Town of Pomfret adopted an “Ordinance Establishing Fees Payable Under Building, Fire, and Demolition Code, Fire Marshals and Fire Hazards, Safety of Public and Fire Marshal Inspections” at Special Town Meeting held March 1, 2021. The ordinance shall become effective March 26, 2021, or fifteen (15) days after its publication in a newspaper having a general circulation in the Town of Pomfret.
In Summary: The ordinance states the purpose and authority requiring inspections and reviews by the Fire Marshal for the Town of Pomfret; establishes fees for permits and inspections and lists the permits for which fees and inspection are required; establishes penalties for not obtaining a permit as required; specifies what agencies are exempt from permit and inspection fees; and establishes the process to amend the existing fees. An attached fee schedule called the “Pomfret Fire Marshal Schedule of Fees” which was approved by the Board of Selectmen at their regular meeting of January 19, 2021, was included with the ordinance.

Rotary Scholarships Offered
The Putnam Rotary Club Scholarship Committee recently notified local schools that the scholarship application season has begun.
Seniors must complete an online application and they must be residents of the towns that the club serves: Eastford, Pomfret, Putnam, Thompson and Woodstock. Children and grandchildren of Putnam Rotary Club members are not eligible.
The online applications can be accessed in any of the following methods:

Each school will have its own internal deadline and the final deadline for applications to be submitted to the Rotary Club will be based on those individual school deadlines.
Last year, the Putnam Rotary Club awarded eight $4,000 scholarships to graduating seniors.
