THOMPSON — It was, as has been the case recently, a little warm for the Woodstock Academy OneDigital Centaur Classic golf tournament held recently at the Quinnatisset Country Club in Thompson.
No one seemed to mind the heat.
“It was an incredible day,” said tournament organizer Brad Favreau. “I mentioned to more than a few people today that it’s my favorite day of the year. Everyone is happy, everyone is having a good time, the weather cooperated – hot but with a little breeze. Everyone has a smile on their face and it was certainly a successful day for all of us.”
The tournament drew 38 foursomes to Quinnatisset with the money raised devoted to athletic projects at The Academy.
“We got to do something for the golf team last year; got nets (for the turf field) at the Bentley Athletic Complex; got new machines for the training room. It’s just a great plus for our programs,” Favreau added.
The team of Pat O’Brien, Mark Seiffert, Kevin Cole and Seth Woods came out on top with a 16-under par total.
The quartet of Gary Rawson, Marc Hoffower, Chase Anderson and Jon-Luc Cournoyer were second at 14-under -par in the scramble format tournament.
Cameron Rosa had the long drive for the men on the 14th hole while Lynn Tedeschi Converse was best for the women on the fourth hole.
David Musto Jr. was the closest to the pin on the seventh hole while Cindy Brown was the closest among the women players.
Many Woodstock Academy alums were on hand with the oldest hailing from the Class of 1963.
“It’s good to see kids that aren’t kids any more but are adults come back and give a little back to the school they graduated from,” Favreau said. “Hats off to (Quinnatisset Country Club pro) Andy (Treen) and his staff. They were great to work with. Everything was seamless all the way through.”
