'Ghosts' at PSA
in the form
of Durham
By Ron P. Coderre
Putnam Science Academy basketball coach Tom Espinosa has been working the phones very diligently of late and his efforts are paying rich dividends. May 24 Espinosa announced the signing of post-graduate recruit Anthony Durham of Philadelphia.
The addition of the 6-foot, 3-inch Durham makes him the fourth recruit who’ll join the 2013-2014 Mustangs squad. Already in the fold are Kyle Menard, Dalique Mingo and Jalen Terry who committed in early May.
Durham last played at Abington High School in the Philadelphia area, having transferred there as a junior from Academy of the New Church in Bryn Athyn. Last season he averaged 14.5 points per game during the Ghosts’ 28-game season.
“We’re pleased that Anthony has committed to our program. He’s a combination guard who adds versatility to our team. His strength is getting open without the ball. When handling the ball he has great instincts and is very capable of driving to the hoop,” said Espinosa.
Last season, while playing for the Academy of the New Church Ghosts, Durham attracted a varying degree of interest from a number of NCAA Division I colleges, including St. Francis of Loretto, Pennsylvania, The Citadel, Bloomberg State and Florida International University.
