Fund-raiser lineup
PUTNAM — The line-up for the seventh annual Particle Accelerator: A Day of Music and Hope, from noon to 11 p.m. June 8 at Rotary Park includes: Nothing Left to Give, Frank Pace and the All-Stars, The Papa Joe Show, White Rose Confession
Our Burgundy, Evoke, D.I.M., Santa Mamba, Slang Junkies, Synergy, Adam Trudel, Kala Farnham, Shane Hall and the TickleBomb Orchestra.
The festival, held in memory of local musician Jack Young Jr., is aimed at raising awareness and funds for suicide prevention and local mental health programs.  In addition to the concert, the family-friendly festival will also feature art displays, children’s activities and booths from local nonprofit organizations providing information on various local behavioral health and human services.
John Deary, an active member of the “Quiet Corner” community and owner of Deary’s Gymnastics Supply, is serving as Chair of this year’s event.  Deary says it’s a cause that is close to his heart, having lost a sibling to suicide.
While the festival is free to the public, proceeds from sponsorships and donations to the event generate critical funding to support Mental Health First Aid training and other mental health programs administered by United Services, Inc., northeastern Connecticut’s nonprofit behavioral health center.
United Services was the first behavioral health center in the state to offer Mental Health First Aid training, which teaches how to identify and respond to someone in the midst of a mental health crisis, to get them the professional help they need before it’s too late.  United Services offers the training free of charge to first responders, educators, healthcare workers, and other members of the community.  Last year’s Particle Accelerator raised nearly $5,000 for these programs.
