Money, food raised
for food pantry
PUTNAM — The recent Daughters of Isabella food drive raised $616.11 in cash donations and $367.50 worth of food items. to benefit Daily Bread, the food pantry maintained by Interfaith Human Services of Putnam.
Ann Kathi Peterson, IHSP Secretary and Community Resource/Volunteer coordinator, said, “The cash donation will help us buy 224 boxes of cereal, something that we will be out of this week. The food donation will go quickly.”
Peterson said that because parents are welcome to visit the pantry twice a month during the summer, as opposed to normal once a month supplemental food service, shelves empty quickly and donations are particularly helpful.
Patricia Wester, a member of the Daughters of Isabella and coordinator of the food drive, said,”Part of the mission of the Daughters of Isabella is to reach out to the community and help in whatever way we are able. Since Daily Bread has long been an agency that has been close to our heart, and, since some of us have volunteered and contributed to Daily Bread, we felt that we would like to choose Daily Bread as the agency which we would like to champion for the 2013-2014 year. We are familiar with its long history of providing help to the needy and recognize that its success depends on contributions from the community. “Feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty” is part of our Catholic Christian tradition and we are committed to helping as best we can. we will look for other ways in which we can help.” IHSP accepts food and monetary donations - monetary contributions are accepted at the Grove Street site or via Paypal. ww.nectinterfaith.org.
