Cassell is
teacher of
the year
PUTNAM — The Putnam Board of Education announced that Ashley Cassell as has been named the Putnam 2014 Teacher of the Year.
Cassell has a bachelor’s degree Lesley University in Cambridge, Mass. She continued her education at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain where she obtained her Connecticut State certification in Art Education.
She has received three Artsonia leadership awards in her short career as an art instructor. Artsonia is the world’s largest online kid’s art museum. Although Cassell has only taught in Putnam for four years she has had a major impact on our middle school students, said School Superintendent William Hull. Besides teaching her normal course load, she has taught very popular after school and summer art enrichment classes.
Hull added, “Ashley is a great example of the young talented teachers who have come to the Putnam school system. She is also a wonderful example of all the talented and dedicated professional staff that we have throughout the district. Ashley has been an energetic, positive force at the middle school and throughout the district. She has helped to bring the arts to the forefront of students’ education. Ashley being named Teacher of the Year demonstrates that education in Putnam is not all about teaching to the test. She is just one of many teachers who help to form a foundation of a well rounded education for our students.”
