Drug arrest
PUTNAM — A Putnam man was arrested Nov. 13 on drug charges after a Statewide Narcotics Task Force and Troop D Quality of Life Task Force (QLTF) surveillance and drug bust.
Edward Melendez, 21, of Chasse Street was charged with possession of heroin and possession of heroin with intent to sell.
QLTF members said they have been receiving complaints that drug deals have been occurring in Dayville. QLTF members set up surveillance and observed a vehicle pull into a nearby residence and make two “hand to hand” drug transactions in the driveway. A member of the QLTF in a marked K9 cruiser followed the suspect vehicle onto Interstate 395 and stopped it near exit 94 in Killingly.
Troopers from Troop D and a Detective from the Statewide Narcotics Task Force arrived on scene to assist the QLTF. After a search including two State Police K-9s, 170 bags of heroin pre-packaged for sale were found on the suspect. The estimated street value of the heroin is approximately $2,000.
Members of the CT State Police said they are committed to combating drug activity in the “Quiet Corner” and anyone with information regarding the illegal sale of narcotics and /or synthetic marijuana are encouraged to call the Troop D QLTF anonymous Tips Hotline at 860-779-4950 or message the QLTF Facebook page.
