The Woodstock Academy gymnastics team enjoyed a stellar season under coach Robin Deary-Fillmore, capturing the CIAC Class S, State Open and New England titles, thanks in part to the skill, hard work and leadership of senior Courtney Osborn. This week Osborn received a personal accolade when she was named the Eastern Connecticut Conference Athlete of the Month for March. The award is presented by The Byrnes Agency of Dayville, Norwich and Woodstock.
In leading the Centaur gymnasts to their second New England championship in the last three years, Osborn captured the Gold Medal as the top All-Around performer at the meet. At the CIAC Open meet she was a Bronze medalist in the All-Around, while her first-place finish in the vault at the Class S event helped secure Woodstock’s fourth consecutive State title.
As Osborn prepares to graduate from Woodstock Academy and head to Rhode Island College, she leaves the Woodstock campus as one of the Centaurs and state’s most decorated gymnasts with four ECC titles, four CIAC Class S/M Championships, three Open titles and two New England Championships. Osborn is a three-time ECC All-Star and All-State performer.
The male ECC Athlete of the Month was Dakota Fleming of Windham High School, who was selected for winning the CIAC Open Wrestling Championship in the 160 lb. class. He plans on continuing his wrestling career at College of the Holy Cross in Worcester next year.
