PUTNAM — The talented work of students from the Quinebaug Valley Community College spring 2015 Illustration I course will be showcased along the Putnam River Trail, through September. In a collaboration between Annie Joly, QVCC professor and program coordinator of visual arts, and the Town of Putnam Department of Economic and Community Development, students created their version of nursery rhymes, in a variety of mediums, which are displayed on 13 kiosks along the pathway near the river.
Delpha Very, Town of Putnam director of economic and community development and director, redevelopment agency, said, “QVCC is a community partner in HealthQuest Northeast Connecticut, which is a regional collaborative health and wellness partnership working to make northeastern Connecticut a healthier place to live, work, learn and play, and this endeavor provided a great opportunity to showcase the talent of QVCC students and support the mission.” She added, “Getting children and their families out to exercise is important. This project has children running, not walking, to the next location.”
The River Trail Storywalk is a fun, educational activity that places a children’s story (a book that has been literally taken apart) along this popular and scenic walking route. A Storywalk combines the benefits of physical activity, time outdoors in nature, literacy, and family time.
