DANIELSON — Ground was broken recently  to commemorate the construction of an Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center at Quinebaug Valley Community College.
The construction of a 10,000 square foot single-story building will enable the College to meet the growing demand for skilled operators in the area by training students with the newest available technologies. The building will be LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Silver Certified, with the heating, ventilating and air conditioning system based on geothermal energy. Approximately 20 geothermal wells will be drilled on the property.
The project includes one classroom, two offices, conference room, mechatronics lab, metrology lab, tool crib, machine shop lab/classroom, as well as mechanical and IT support rooms.
State and local representatives, as well as key contributors to the project, were be on hand for the groundbreaking, including: ·  Joe Courtney, United States Congressman for Connecticut’s 2nd Congressional District; Matthew LeBeau, Outreach Organizer for United States Senator Richard Blumenthal;  Mark Ojakian, President, Connecticut State Colleges & Universities; P.J. “Bud” Salemi, Deputy Commissioner, Connecticut Department of Administrative Services; Keith Epstein, Vice President for Facilities, Real Estate & Infrastructure Planning, Connecticut State Colleges and Universities; Mae Flexer, Connecticut State Senator, 29th District;  Donald Williams Jr., Director of Policy, Research and Reform, Connecticut Education Association; Mike Alberts, Connecticut State Representative, 50th District; Danny Rovero, Connecticut State Representative, 51st District; Tony Guglielmo, Connecticut State Senator, 35th District.
