The Putnam Science Academy Mustangs have added another big man to the 2016-2017 stable of recruits.
In an announcement just prior to Memorial Day, coach Tom Espinosa announced the addition of former Xavier High School big man Alex White to this year’s team.
White comes to Putnam Science Academy following four successful years on the court and in the classroom at Xavier, which is located in Middletown.
An honor student in the classroom, White is equally adept on the hardwood.
As a senior last year he was impressive, averaging 15 points, nine rebounds and three blocks per game.
“Alex’s best basketball is still ahead of him. He’s joining us with the goal of improving his skills and looking to get more exposure in front of Division I schools,” said Espinosa.
As the captain of the Xavier team in his senior season White was selected to the New Haven Tap-Off Club All-Area team.
He also was honored as Xavier’s Most Valuable Player and was recognized as an SCC All-Conference selection. He played in the Connecticut High School Coaches Association All-Star Game at the conclusion of the regular high school season.
“Alex is the type of student athlete that we’re working hard to attract to Putnam Science Academy. He’s a talented basketball player and a tremendous young man off the court. We’re anxious to have him join our school,” said Espinosa.
