DANIELSON — On Friday, August 19, Quinebaug Valley Community College’s Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center was presented with a check from the Gene Haas Foundation for $25,000. 

The grant is designated for scholarships to support the 34-credit advanced manufacturing certificate program.

The QVCC Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center is preparing to cut the ribbon on its brand new 10,000-square-foot facility dedicated to providing state-of-the-art training in advanced manufacturing. 

Since 2012, QVCC’s advanced manufacturing certificate program has prepared 118 graduates for high-skill, high-pay jobs with Connecticut manufacturers in the aerospace, automotive, biomedical, and defense industries.

“Manufacturers are lining up to hire our graduates,” said Advanced Manufacturing Technology Director Steve LaPointe. 

“The Gene Haas Foundation’s support will go a long way in helping more students launch manufacturing careers.”

Growing up with a strong social conscience instilled by his family, Gene Haas initially formed the Foundation in 1999 to fund the needs of the local community. 

Haas is the owner of Haas Automation, Inc., America’s leading builder of CNC machine tools, which he started in 1983.
