POMFRET — Two new 8th grade students, Dominique Darius and Keegan Rybacki, were recently awarded The Rectory School’s Bigelow Scholarship. The Bigelow Scholarship is awarded to two newly enrolling 7th or 8th-grade students who best represent the Rectory Creed, and encompass the ideals and characteristics that Mr. John Bigelow looked for in Rectory students: “To work well, to play well; to think clearly, to speak the truth; to win without pride, to lose without rancor; to have courage, and to be kind. This is a goal for the greatest: It is a goal that the least may reach.” To be considered for this merit scholarship, students must satisfy several requirements, including writing a 500-word essay about why they are deserving of he Bigelow Scholarship. Dominique and Keegan stood out in the application pool based on their effort to live by this motto, as well as their dedication to their studies and extracurricular activities.
Dominique is the daughter of Alemnesh Darius of New Rochelle, N.Y., and Donovin Darius of Jacksonville, Fla. Her favorite subjects are history and math. This past year, Dominique was awarded the Samuel H Giangreco Memorial Award for her leadership and cooperation in interscholastic sports. She enjoys playing basketball and is eager to try lacrosse in the spring.
Keegan is the son of Tina Lefevre of Pomfret and Daniel Rybacki of Danielson. Before Rectory, Keegan was selected to be a part of the Killingly Intermediate School Teen Leadership program in which he learned how to be a good role model for younger kids in Killingly. When he is not helping at the program, he enjoys playing baseball.
“We congratulate and welcome Dominique and Keegan to the Rectory community,” said Director of Enrollment, John Seaward ‘02. “We are excited to see their continued academic growth and look forward to their accomplishments. We are confident that they will be positive contributors to The Rectory School community.
