WOODSTOCK — The Woodstock Academy gymnastics team took its fifth straight CIAC Class S Championship last week.

Woodstock Academy gymnastics team picked up right where they left off all season being dominate on the biggest stages.  They proved so again at the CIAC Class S championship, held at Pomperaug High School, where they had placed all three positions on the podium in all four areas enroute to winning their fifth straight title. 

Seniors Paige Stuyniski and Grace Logan were both dominate in all areas where they took gold in the events. Paige Stuyniski took first place in both the beam and floor exercise and also tied for first place with her teammate Grace Logan in the vault. Grace Logan at the same time took first place in the bar competition and second place in the floor exercise. Woodstock showed they have a deep roster as they have three talented underclassmen in sophomores Ali Crescimanno and Lydia Taft, and freshman Jenna Davidson.  

Killingly Redmen placed just outside the podium with a fourth-place finish in the event. The State Open will be at 10 a.m. March 4 at New Milford High School.

In basketball, the Woodstock Academy Centaurs defeat the second-ranked Saints to win the ECC Div. 2 Championship. The Centaurs played efficiently throughout the whole game, as they fell behind early, but then regained composure and then took the lead early with a 11-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter much of the same happened where they jumped out to a 21-10 halftime score and didn’t look back. Woodstock was led by Ari Koivisto who scored 12 points, and was named as the Most Valuable Player of the ECC Division 2 tournament. Heather Converse finished the game with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Jamie Woods scored nine of her own points, and Mackenzie Eaton finished with seven points to take home the ECC Title.  St. Bernard was led by Caitlin Dittman who finished the game with 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Saints.  The Centaurs locked up on defense well, and forced many tough shots for the Saints, who didn’t really shoot the ball well going 8-40 from the field. The Centaurs fought hard and deserved the victory.

Saoirse Power-Cassidy led the Marianapolis Golden Knights with 23 points, four rebounds and four assists as well as Olivia Summiel had a double-double in the final game of the season with 11 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. The Knights fall to New Hampton by six points.

Olivia Summiel brought the energy for the Lady Knights with a double-double as she ended the game with 10 points and 11 rebounds and had three blocks in the game, but came up short to Loomis Chafee and move to 13-9. Jordan Frye led Marianapolis in scoring with 13 points.
