Mailbox
advice
By Linda Lemmon

Is it time for your mailbox to rise like a phoenix? Did the "nimble" snow plows flatten it?
The Putnam Postmaster, Don Deslauriers, has some advice.
The box should be one foot from the edge of the pavement. In addition, the box itself should be between 42 to 48 inches from the ground.
This allows the mail truck driver to simply reach for your mailbox, open it and place your mail inside without too much strain.
Deslauriers said if you receive a lot of packages, consider replacing your smashed box with a larger box.
In addition, Deslauriers asked that your spring cleanup outside should also include the area around your mailbox.
"Please trim bushes and branches away from the mailbox," he said.
