Sand sculpture
graces grounds
at Westview
DAYVILLE — Westview Health Care Center residents, patients and staff know summer is right around the corner when the artists from Sandtasia, a Rhode Island-based professional sand sculpting company, appear on the facility’s front lawn to create their newest masterpiece. Owner, Steve Topazio and his sister Jessica DiCostanzo created a woodland motif with a multi-faced tree stump adorned with multiple smiling gnomes. They used a 7-ton mound of sand. Topazio is a retired construction manager turned professional sculptor. The secret of their sculpture’s longevity lies in the process of properly compacting the sand called the “pound up” and spraying a water and wood glue mixture to the finished work. This is Sandtasia’s fifth year at Westview,” said David T. Panteleakos, administrator. “Each year they bring something creatively new for us to admire through the upcoming summer months.”
