The Putnam High Lady Clippers opened up state tourney with big home win. The gym at Putnam High School was standing room only as the Clippers walked away with a first round 48-25 win over Westbrook .
The Clippers’ Kayleigh Lyons came with a purpose and netted 20 points from shots all over the court. Sophomore Layla’s Chavez had multiple steals which resulted in 8 of her 10 points. Sophomore Abby St.Martin was a huge presence in the paint on offense and defense.
Feb. 28 the Clippers hosted to Bloomfield. The Clippers kept it close until halftime. But when Bloomfield hit the court in the second half the defense swarmed the guards. That forced some crucial turnovers that led to easy baskets. Bloomfield walked away with the win 59-40
Abby St.Martin led all scorers with 12 followed by Kayleigh Lyons and Jillian Gray who scored 8 each. Molly Mckeon had 7 to round out the scores.
The good news for Clipperville is that only two seniors graduate. Morgan and Lauren Blackmar played with a ton of heart and will be missed for leadership for the team next year.
