Richard Y. Horsfield,
WWII vet
DAYVILLE — Richard Y Horsfield, P.E., 90, of Dayville, died March 2, 2019, at his home.
He was the husband of Nancy Horsfield.
Born and raised in New Jersey, he was the son of the late Fred and Hazel (Yost) Horsfield. In his youth he maintained a plethora of unusual part time jobs, which not only taught him skills he would use for a lifetime, but also provided the basis of stories with which he regaled his children and grandchildren for years.
After serving in the Army during WWII, Dick earned his bachelor’s from NYU where he served as president of his fraternity, Kappa Sigma. He then spent his entire career as a civil engineer in steel fabrication, lastly for Thames Valley Steel Co.
A family man first, Dick was a very active member of Wapping Community Church in S. Windsor where he and Nancy raised their four children. During this time he was also a Boy Scout leader. After moving to Alexander’s Lake in Dayville in 1988, he continued his church involvement at The First Congregational Church of Woodstock where he remained a dedicated member. Dick was also a Community Kitchen worker for more than 20 years and a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.
An all-around handy man, Dick was willing to fix, design, or build anything for anyone. His favorite past times included travel, family camping trips, biking, and sailing at Alexander’s Lake. He was an avid reader, daily cross word puzzle fan, and lover of movies old and new.
You could find him every Friday at Main Street Grille in Putnam with his fellow ROMEOs. He was best known for his quiet, kind, and generous spirit.
He leaves his wife of 63 years, Nancy (Swanson) Horsfield; four children - Scott Horsfield (Lisa) of Tolland, and children Lauren and Eric (Michelle); Sharon Kelley (G. Michael) of Warwick, R.I., and children Thomas (Augustine), G Matthew (Ashley), and Jonathan (Juliette); Cynthia Topliff (Walter) of Pomfret, and children Melissa, Eric and Colleen; Jennifer Mines of Ridgefield, and children Timothy, Andrew, Daniel and Benjamin; and great-grandchildren Jonah and Elijah Kelley.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. March 30 at The First Congregational Church of Woodstock. Donations: to the church or to Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeastern CT. Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St., Putnam.
Eleanor C. Page
THOMPSON — Eleanor C. Page, 94, of Cournoyer Rd., died March 15, 2019, at home. She was the wife of more than 68 years to the late Edgar J. Page. Born in 1924 in Woonsocket, R.I., she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Blanche (Breault) Cournoyer and was a graduate of Putnam High School.
On May 12, 1945, at Sacred Heart Church in Thompson, she was united in marriage to Edgar J. Page. He died on Aug. 29, 2013.
Mrs. Page enjoyed sewing and flower gardening. She was a member of the Woodstock Historical Society, Woodstock Garden Club, Putnam Home Economic Club and the Woodstock Theft Detection Society.
She leaves her son, Marc R. Page of Norwich; her daughter, Denise Duchesney (Doug) of Thompson; seven grandchildren, Angela, Thomas, Katherine, Rebecca, Nicole, Jessica, and Amanda; and 15 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her daughter Mary Jeanne Page, and her brother Edmund R. Cournoyer.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. March 22 in Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam. A gathering will begin in the funeral home at 9 a.m. March 23 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Most Holy Trinity, Pomfret. Burial follows in St. Mary Cemetery. Russell A. Williams II
WOODSTOCK — Russell A. Williams II, 59, of Brickyard Rd, died March 11, 2019, at UMass Memorial University Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Claire M. (Chickering) Williams. Born in 1959 in New London, he was the son of Beverly Anne (Davis) Williams of Montville and the late Russell A. Williams. Russell was a graduate of Woodstock Academy.
On Dec. 17, 2003, at the family home in Woodstock, he was united in marriage to the former Claire Chickering.
Mr. Williams worked as an aide in the Department of Mental Retardation for the State of Connecticut.
He was a member of the Improved Order of Redman and enjoyed playing pool, golfing, hunting, fishing, and being an avid outdoorsman.
He leaves his wife of 15 years, Claire (Chickering) Williams; his mother, Beverly Anne (Davis) Williams of Montville; a daughter, Jasmine Williams of Woodstock; and a brother, Jeffery Williams of Bridgewater, Maine, formerly of Woodstock.

Elizabeth Bourbeau
QUINEBAUG — Elizabeth M. (Walker) Bourbeau, 104, died Feb. 21, 2019, in Matulaitis Nursing Center, Putnam. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Arthur A, Bourbeau, in 2003.
She was born Sept. 2, 1914, in Fabyan, a daughter of George and Margaret (Gleason) Walker, moved to Quinebaug at the age of 2, and lived in Quinebaug for the past 102 years. She graduated from Tourtellotte Memorial High School in N. Grosvenordale in 1932.
Mrs. Bourbeau worked at optical companies and also at American Greeting Card Company before retiring in 1979.
She was the oldest member of St. Stephen’s Church in Quinebaug.
She was also a member of the Thompson Women’s Club, the Woodstock Quilters and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Quinebaug Volunteer Fire Department.
She enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, baking and family get-togethers.
She leaves a son, Paul W. Bourbeau (Susan) of Southport, N.C.; a daughter, Kathleen E. Walker of Littleton, Colo.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 9 to 10:15 a.m. March 25 at Scanlon Funeral Service, Webster.
The Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. in St. Stephen’s Church, with burial in W. Thompson Cemetery. Donations: St. Stephen’s Church or the Quinebaug Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 144. Quinebaug, CT 06262.
Beverly Ann Converse
PUTNAM — Beverly Ann Converse, 68, died March 11, 2019, at St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester.
She was born July 29, 1950, in Webster, daughter of the late Raymond L. Regis and Gabrielle Ross Regis.
Beverly graduated from St. Joseph High School, and went on to work and later retire from SNET Co. to be a stay-at-home mother.
She later returned to work for Crabtree & Evelyn and then on to her most fulfilling job as an in-home caregiver, where she cared for those as if they were her own family members.
She leaves her husband of 48 years, Roy Converse; children, Lisa Stanley (Justin) of Brooklyn, Scott Converse and Courtney Germain of Warwick, R.I., and Amy Converse and Jason Miller of Danielson; grandchildren, Christian St. Onge, Corey Stanley, Emma Miller; two brothers, Guy Regis (Charlene) of Thompson and Raymond Regis (Jacqueline) of Webster.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. May 3 at St. Joseph Church, N. Grosvenordale.
Burial is private.

Charles C. Johnson,
Air Force vet
OKEECHOBEE, Fla. — Charles C. Johnson, 80, died March 14, 2019, at the St. Lucie Hospice in Fort Pierce, Fla.
He was born in Binghamton, N.Y., son of the late Walter C. Johnson and Edythe B. (Crispell) Johnson and lived in Florida for the past 10 years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Charles enjoyed bicycling, traveling through the mountains especially the Rocky Mountains.
He was a production line consultant in the electronic industry.
He leaves three brothers; Donald Johnson of N. Grosvenordale, John Johnson of Orange City, Fla., Gregory Johnson of Naples, Fla.; three sisters; Kay Fafard of Thompson, Brenda Vandervoort of Bonita Springs, Fla., and Lela Rolfe of Depoe Bay, Ore. He was predeceased by a brother and sister: Richard Johnson and Carolyn Jones.
A private graveside service will be held in Woodstock.
Donations: St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
