Putnam a host for 3-state race
Putnam hosted runners of the inaugural RiMaConn Relay Aug. 24. The three-state, 95-mile relay race was produced by the non-profit Hartford Marathon Foundation (HMF).
RiMaConn Relay was a day-long endurance running event that drew about 130 three-member and six-member teams to experience a scenic course through 20 towns, starting in Lincoln, Rhode Island, running into Massachusetts, and then through Connecticut to end in Hartford.
Putnam served as a relay exchange point, hosting volunteers and cheerleaders from across the area as race participants met up with their teams traveling through.
HMF partnered with Webster Bank to produce its first-ever team relay on the East Coast Greenway- 85 percent of the course utilized this network of scenic multi-use trails.
Sheila Frost, Putnam native and owner of The Courthouse Bar & Grille, prepared hundreds of fresh and healthy sandwich wraps to feed the athletes when they ran into Putnam. Additionally, Putnam EMS supported the event with dedicated medical service.
