POMFRET — Feb. 5 the Pomfret School boys’ varsity basketball team traveled to Easthampton to take on Williston Northampton School. Williston prevailed with a 54-50 win.
This Class A opponent is always a test for us and often has size and athleticism. Pomfret’s focus was not completely there at the start of the game and WNS took advantage going up 29-22 at the half.
In the second frame, Pomfret bore down and played better defense while moving the ball. Andrew Lufkin (25 pts) got hot from behind the arc, hitting seven three-pointers, often with a hand in his face. Despite some foul trouble, Bryce Howard (8 pts, 8 assists) and Jon Kazur played well and Bryce Johnson (9 pts) continued to be a presence on the inside. Pomfret took the lead a few times, but in the end, Williston prevailed.
Pomfret plays four games this week including:
Wednesday: Home vs. Westminster @ 3 pm
Friday: At St. Georges @ 6:30 pm
Saturday: Home vs. Portsmouth Abbey @ 3 pm
Monday: At Marianapolis @ 5 pm
