PUTNAM — The town’s Municipal Complex continues on its fast track despite some “challenges” from the weather.
Downes Construction Company officials said the project is still ahead of schedule and is still under budget. Town officials hope the complex, which contains a Town Hall, a new home for the library and the Aspinock Historical Society as well as a senior center and a community center, stays on this schedule and they’re looking for a move-in date of late summer/early fall 2021, according to Town Administrator Elaine Sistare.
Mike Dellaccio, Downes assistant project manager, said the high winds and rain weren’t helpful but the company put on extra crews to stay on track.
The trusses were completed ahead of schedule and they expect the roof to be finished ahead of schedule as well.
The roof will have a layer of metal, then sheathing, then solid insulation, then an air vapor barrier and then the asphalt shingles. Dellaccio said he believes the roof will be done by mid-December.
The vertical outside walls are getting their exterior sheathing now. That will be followed by a spray vapor barrier. Temporary windows will be installed and the scaffolding around the whole building will be wrapped in a fire-rated plastic, he said.
Then temporary heating will be installed inside, allowing work to continue no matter how much winter havoc might be coming. Under cover of the wrapped scaffolding, the brick walls will go up.
The bricks for the large town hall portion of the complex will be red. The brickwork set for the library portion will be red with dots and dashes of black bricks worked into it.
