PUTNAM — John Miller, long time business and community leader, Aug. 5 announced his candidacy for selectman. The town clerk recently accepted his petition to run as unaffiliated.
Miller said that giving voters a choice prompted him to run. “The Democrats put up two candidates and the Republicans, as the majority party, put up four,” he said. “Voters select six out of seven and I hope and would be honored if I’m one of the six.”
Asked what is important for Putnam Miller said he hopes to foster the continued growth of Putnam. “Economic development and redevelopment is extremely important. We need to continue to grow the grand list to fund continued growth of Putnam,” he said. Adding businesses to grow the grand list rather than upping taxes is important to Putnam’s future.
