Record stands at 29-0
Putnam Science Academy’s boys' Prep basketball team continued its incredible season-long run with four more impressive wins last week to run its record to 29-0.
The Mustangs, ranked No. 1 in the country, capped the week with a 71-58 win over No. 3 Northfield Mount Hermon, but the game was essentially played with PSA holding a 15-20 point lead throughout.
Arturo Dean led the way with 18 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals, Desmond Claude had 16 points and seven rebounds, Ugonna Kingsley had 10 blocks, nine rebounds, and four points.
PSA also took out up-the-road rival Woodstock Academy, 68-55 behind 17 from Dean, 12 from Claude, 11 points and five rebounds from Barry Evans, and eight points, seven rebounds, six assists from DayDay Gittens.
Cushing Academy, ranked No. 14, was no match either. Evans had 20 points, eight boards, five assists, and two steals, while Kingsley finished with 14 points, six rebounds, and six blocks.
Tuesday’s 108-73 win over Notre Dame-West Haven was coach Tom Espinosa’s 400th at PSA.
“It’s a great accomplishment,” he said, “but you can’t do it without players, your assistant coaches, and support from the school, and community. I’ve been fortunate to have all of that.”
