DANIELSON — John F. Pacheco Jr., 79, of Danielson, passed peacefully to Jesus June 28, 2023, at Pierce Memorial Baptist Home in Brooklyn.
John was born on April 12, 1944, son of the late John F. Sr. and Edith V. (Almeida) Pacheco in Fall River, Mass. They lived in Newport until moving to East Providence during John’s junior year of high school, where he met the love of his life, Carole (Kehoe) Pacheco. As seniors in high school, John asked her to the prom and they’d been inseparable ever since, building a life of love, happiness, and laughter. After many years in East Providence and then Foster, they moved to Alexander’s Lake in Dayville in 2001 before moving to Danielson, where they lived for the past 15 years. An invitation to their home always meant a full belly and John’s regaling stories.
John started his 30+ year career as a draftsman for Fram Corporation and retired as a packaging engineer. He enjoyed his retirement and surprised all who knew him by becoming a school bus driver for the Killingly School District. John easily folded the children on the bus into his tribe of extended grandchildren. John was a member of the East Providence Social Club, the Alexander’s Lake Yacht Club, and the Briarwood Falls Condo Association. He played baseball, softball and golf. He loved painting, drawing, and building everything from a train set village to outdoor Christmas decorations. He was an avid shopper and loved to “go out for a bite,” often ending in a dessert.
In addition to his wife of 58 years, and faithful kitty JJ, he leaves two sons, John F. Pacheco III (Wendy) of Charlestown, R.I., Scott Pacheco and his husband Ronald of Hartford, and a “special daughter” Holly Barlow (Walter) of Dayville; a sister Donna Arruda (William) of Pawtucket, R.I.; four grandchildren, John F. Pacheco IV, MD, (Tawni), Anna Pacheco, DPT, (Liam), Thomas Pacheco and his companion Rachel, and Ronald Giard; great-grandson Teddy; a niece, Nicole Lang (Keith), and their daughter, his grand-niece, Keira.
A Celebration will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. July 21 in the Gilman Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Church St. Putnam, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary Church of the Visitation, and burial in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston, R.I.
